August 6th 2009 Tonga News Reports hit about how a Ferry Sunk with what they say were mostly men being the survivors. They say it is common for women and children to be sleeping below while the men stay above on the ferry rides. A survivor of the Tonga Ferry Crash reported that by the time the ferry crewman told people to put on life jackets it was too late. About 1 minute after the ferry turned upside down and sank into the sea. Those below were trapped in the sinking ferry. Out of what they say to be 149 people on board only about 53 to 55 people survived.

A ferry with what some american news media says to be 141 people on board while other news media states it was 149 people onboard sunk making world news on August 6, 2009. Tonga News says about 53 to 55 people have survived from the now Sunk Ferry. The ferry sunk near Tonga's Lifuka Island. Bodies of the victims were being recovered the best they could but, Tonga Police say they may not ever be able to identify all Ferry Crash Victims. The victims of the ferry crash were thought to have been trapped inside the ferry as it sank. New Zealand and Australian search parties are out helping to search for the bodies of the Ferry Crash. The Tonga Ferry sank to the bottom of the ocean area about 35m down. That is why New Zealand and Australian divers from the New Zealand & Australian Navy were called in to help Tonga Search parties with the recovery of the bodies from the sank Ferry. Just after the call for help from the Tonga Prime Minister search crews were sent out from New Zealand and Australia to help search for survivors.

Some of the people were reported saying they believed the Tonga Ferry Princess Ashika took a long time to sail from Fiji to Tonga due to it breaking down on the way. The Ferry Princess Ashika was bought in July and took almost a month to travel from Fiji to Tonga. The Tonga Ferry was said to have passed its safety inspection. The reason for the ferry sinking is not yet known.

Sunk Ferry Updates on the Tonga Princess Ashika. New Zealand Divers releases a photo showing what looks to be the Sunk Ferry. The ferry is said to be now at least 50 meters underwater and possibly more like 100 meters. Divers were sent down to recover bodies from the sunk ferry. After search and recovery costs and things were looked into the Tonga Prime Minister and people have found the deep sea diving equipment that may be needed would cost millions and is only available overseas. There were said by some Tonga officials that when boarding a ferry sometimes people give their tickets to others and just confirm by using first names ect. This means people that were said to be on board could have decided not to go while others that were not expected to be onboard could have went down with the sinking ferry.

Just a month prior to this ferry crash there was another Ferry Crash that killed 33 people. That ferry crash was also on the Pacific Ocean. With all the plane crashes and ship wrecks or ferry accidents we have to always remember that life is a gift and each day is like a bonus. Live every day as if it were your last day but, always be careful to plan for the future and prepare to live to be old. Most people never know how or when they will die & we never know when we may face loss of family or friends. One of the many reasons to always be kind to one another in life.
